Registering as a Carer

An unpaid Carer is someone who looks after a family member or friend with a health condition. That can mean helping them with personal tasks like washing or dressing, helping them with mobility or managing around the home, providing emotional support or just keeping an eye on them.

Being registered as a Carer with your GP surgery means that your doctor will know that you are looking after someone and be aware of how this may impact your health and well-being. You might be invited to have a flu jab, health checks or be given flexible appointments.

From 1st April 2016, SIGNAL will provide free signposting, information, guidance, networking, advice and learning to all unpaid (non-professional) carers who care for someone in Windsor, Ascot & Maidenhead. SIGNAL is run by The Ark Trust Ltd. and is funded by The Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead (RBWM) and Windsor, Ascot & Maidenhead Clinical Commissioning Group (WAM CCG).

The Ark Trust works with people with disabilities and/ or long-term conditions, with carers of people with disabilities and/ or long term conditions and with young people who are not in education, employment or training. Visit www.signal4carers.org.uk or call 01628 947974.

Application forms for this service are available from Reception. Please do ask if you would like to be referred.

Carer's Event - Thursday 26th January

This event, which was the first educational evening arranged by the Patient Participation Group, was well attended by 20 of our registered Carers, who listened to a very informative presentation by Mark and Sharon from Signal 4 Carers.

Also in attendance were Marianne Hiley, Better Care Fund Manager from the CCG/ RBWM and Christine O'Hare, CEO of Windsor & Maidenhead Citizens Advice Bureau. They were on hand to answer any queries that our Carers had, and to offer support, advice and signposting.
