The collection of sharps and clinical waste is free of charge.

Needles & Syringes must be disposed of in a bespoke sharps bin, and the lid must be sealed prior to collection. These bins are available on prescription. Please ask at Reception.

Clinical waste must be disposed of in special sacks, available either from the surgery or the RBWM Waste Team.

What is clinical waste? This is infectious waste which you may have following an operation or as part of on-going care. It may be infectious, so it must be handled with care, and must NOT be disposed of with household waste. It includes blood or other infectious bodily fluids, including disposable wipes or dressings, and health care chemicals. Any non-infectious or hygiene waste can be disposed of with your household waste and does not need special collection. Please place in a heavy duty black bag and ensure that it is sealed.

Collection days - Collections are made on a Thursday. Please email/ phone the RBWM Waste Team before midday on Wednesday for collection that week. Any requests received after midday on Wednesday will be collected the following week. Please leave your clinical waste outside your front door/ in an agreed place by 7am on the Thursday.

Unused/ out of date medication - these should be returned to a Pharmacy for them to dispose of correctly. We are unable to accept this, as we are not licenced to dispose of dispensed medication.

If you have any queries, please do speak with a member of the reception team.
